Journalists astounded by Glasner press conference

Football writers Ian Ladyman and Henry Winter react to Oliver Glasner's extraordinary Crystal Palace press conference, where he hit back at the fans who had criticised him after recent performances.

Pep: I would desperately love Rodri to stay

Rodri's contract runs out next summer and asked if he would like to see him stay on, Man City boss Pep Guardiola said: I would love (that) desperately.

Rodri is Rodri. As much age as he has, more wiser, more understanding of the game.

There are players that are defined on the big stages, in the difficulties, and Rodris one of them, like Bernie, like Ruben (Dias), like many of them that I had in the past. You cannot achieve what we achieved if you dont have huge personalities.

Neymar admits retirement quandary

Brazil forward Neymar says he is "living year to year" as he considers retirement at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old currently plays for boyhood club Santos, where he joined from Al Hilal last year, and hopes to play for his country in this summer's World Cup.

He has suffered from injury problems in recent years, most recently a knee injury, but is under contract for the rest of 2026.

"I don't know what will happen from now on, I don't know about next year," he told Brazilian channel Caze.

"It may be that when December comes, I'll want to retire. I'm living year to year now.

"We will see what my heart decides. It depends on what my heart says later in the year.

"This year is a very important year, not only for Santos, but also for the Brazilian national team, as it's a World Cup year, and for me too. I wanted to play this season totally 100 per cent."

Neymar, who is Brazil's leading scorer of all time with 79 goals in 128 caps, has played at three World Cups.

Wednesday sign Dieng on emergency loan

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Seny Dieng on an emergency loan from Middlesbrough.

The 31-year-old has not played a senior game since December 10 2024, when Boro lost 3-1 to Leeds at Elland Road.

Henrik Pedersen's side face Sheffield United in the Steel City derby at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

Elliott to Villa deal only triggered by Premier League appearances

Latest from Your Site News' Rob Jones:

Your Site News understands Aston Villa's option to buy Harvey Elliott from Liverpool can only be triggered by Premier League appearances.

Elliott joined Villa on a season-long loan in the summer with an obligation to sign him for 35m if he plays a certain number of matches.

The playmaker has made seven appearances across all competitions since joining but has only started three games.

Elliott started in Villa's 3-2 win over RB Salzburg in January but has since been left out of the match-day squad for games against Bournemouth, Brighton and Newcastle.

Villa crashed out of the FA Cup after the 3-1 loss to Newcastle last time out and also exited the Carabao Cup in September.

Unai Emery's side remain in the Europa League after qualifying for the last 16 of the competition, where Elliott will be available to feature if he recovers from a hernia problem.

Iraola: Senesi's future at Bournemouth is still 'open'

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola insists Marcos Senesi's future at the club remains "open" as he approaches the end of his contract with the Cherries.

Senesi will become a free agent at the end of the 2025/26 campaign and has been free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs since January.

"Yes, I think the situation is still open," Iraola said on Senesi's future.

"I think it's not easy. We have references from all the seasons, and sometimes they decide to re-sign, sometimes not. But I don't think Marcos has taken any decision."

Glasner quizzed on his future at Palace

Your Site NewsJames Savundra posed these questions to Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner in his press conference this morning...

Are you confident you can lead this side until the end of the season?

"Let's see. I always said, as a manager, you always depend on your players. They will get all the support, like always and then we will see."

Do you still want to be here until the end of the season?

"Let's see. What the future brings, we never know."

What needs to happen to ensure you will be here until the end of the season?

"In football, it's easy. As a manager, you will stay and you are allowed to stay when the results are OK.

"Football is all about this, and the last months, the results were not good. The performances were not consistently good and that's it."

Have you found it difficult to maintain your levels?

"No. No. Never. That's why I feel pretty open to talk about because it's the situation. It's never about Oliver Glasner. Oliver Glasner's life will continue in the summer wherever and however it is. Crystal Palace's life will continue."

Have you still got the drive to lead club until the end of season?

"Yes. I feel so. Yes."
