Super League: Toulouse beat Castleford 24-12 to record back-to-back wins at start of campaign

Reubenn Rennie's double helped Toulouse to a 24-12 Super League victory over Castleford as they put together back-to-back wins at the start of the campaign.

The hosts trailed 12-10 at the break, but eventually prevailed at Stade Ernest-Wallon, scoring four tries to two to condemn the visitors to a second successive defeat.

Mathieu Jussaume got the hosts off to a fast start when he touched down inside three minutes after Rennie's fine line-break set up the opportunity.

Cesar Rouge missed with his conversion attempt, and he was made to pay within four minutes when Krystian Mapapalangi climbed highest in pursuit of scrum-half Tom Weaver's kick and came down with the ball to level before the half-back added the two points to make it 6-4 to the visitors.

The hosts regained the lead in the 17th minute when Rennie went over in the corner after Rouge had punched a hole in the Tigers defence and then kicked the conversion.

Seconds after being denied by Oliver Ashall-Bott, Castleford winger Jason Qareqare dived over in the corner to level it and Weaver was unfortunate to see his kick came back off the post, although he did put his side 12-10 ahead four minutes before the break with a penalty from in front of the posts.

The French side regained the lead nine minutes into the second half when, after a successful captain's challenge had handed them the ball back, it was spun out from the base of the scrum and Benjamin Laguerre forced himself over in the corner, handing Rouge a difficult kick from the touchline which he dispatched with aplomb.

They extended their advantage after 62 minutes when Ashall-Bott turned defence into attack and Rennie eventually forced his way across the line before Rouge made it 22-12, and Chris Atkin's late yellow card and the Rouge penalty which followed it sealed victory.

Speaking after his side's victory, Toulouse head coach Sylvain Houles told Your Site: "We're really pleased to be two from two. The Super League is a long journey, so we're just going to need to recover because we've got some sore bodies out there and making sure we travel well to Bradford now."

Wigan overpowered Hull 34-6 at The Brick Community Stadium to move top of the Betfred Super League table.

Sam Walters set the tone with an early score for the Warriors in the corner after just four minutes, after Harry Smith's kick to the right was knocked down to him by Zach Eckersley. It remained one-way traffic as Eckersley soon went over again following another swift attack.

Jai Field saw his touchdown ruled out by the video referee for obstruction before Sam Eseh dived on the ball after Hull lost possession on their own line to score Wigan's third try after only 19 minutes.

Field showed quick feet to slide over as Wigan took a commanding 24-0 lead into half-time.

The hosts continued their momentum after the restart when Bevan French darted through a gap in the Hull defensive line in the 43rd minute. As both sides made a string of replacements, the tempo dropped - along with Wigan's relentless onslaught.

In the 71st minute, Hull's Liam Knight was sent to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle. Wigan made their advantage count to breach the away side's rearguard again when Field went over in the corner after some slick hands from Adam Keighran, who then missed his first conversion from the touchline.

Keighran was also shown a yellow card - his second in as many games - for a late, high tackle on Will Pryce after 75 minutes.

With the numbers evened up, Harvie Hill got Hull on the board, scoring against his former club, following some neat footwork before Pryce went down with what looked a serious knee injury after an awkward fall when being tackled, which just about summed up a miserable night for the visitors.

Your Site will again show every game of the Super League live this season - including two matches in each round exclusively live, with the remaining five matches each week shown on
